More than just a place to live.
Lakeshore Woods is a premium 78-bed senior community on a 7-acre campus in Fort Gratiot, Michigan — Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care — with an on-staff Registered Nurse, chef-prepared meals from a made-from-scratch kitchen, and the staffing density to make daily life real.
Residents come to Lakeshore Woods to live.
Many go back home. We are not a place where people come to end their lives — we are a place where they continue them.
For more than a generation, the default story of senior care has been managed decline. Lakeshore Woods is built on a different premise. With a staffing density meaningfully higher than a typical nursing facility, a made-from-scratch kitchen producing three chef-prepared meals daily, and a Care Levels model that lets families pay only for the support actually needed, we’ve designed a community where residents are seen, supported, and given the conditions to thrive.
And inside our Birch building, the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center — one of only two senior living centers in the United States offering Apollo Health’s ReCODE+ For Facilities Program — extends that conviction into the most difficult conversation a family ever has.
Aspen · Birch · Cedar
Three residences on a single 7-acre campus. As a resident’s needs change, they don’t have to leave the community, the staff, or the routines that have become familiar.
Aspen
Studio and 2-bedroom residences for active seniors who want community, freedom from home maintenance, and the security of having care available when life calls for it. Chef-prepared meals, weekly housekeeping, scheduled transportation, and a full activity calendar — with hands-on support available the moment it’s needed.
Birch
A secure, dementia-trained Memory Care residence delivered as an all-inclusive program with three tiered care packages. Birch is also home to the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center, one of two U.S. senior living centers offering Apollo Health’s ReCODE+ For Facilities Program.
Cedar
Studio and 1-bedroom assisted living residences for seniors who need more consistent support with the activities of daily life. Care is sized to each resident through our six-tier Care Levels system, so families pay only for the support actually used — no flat fees, no surprises.
A real, evidence-based chance at recovery.
Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center · Opening May 2026
MCRC is one of only two senior living centers in the United States offering Apollo Health’s ReCODE+ For Facilities Program — the residential implementation of Dr. Dale Bredesen’s precision-medicine protocol for cognitive decline. Delivered inside our Birch building, in partnership with Apollo Health, for individuals with mild cognitive impairment through early-stage dementia.
“This isn’t about false hope. It’s about giving families a real chance — evidence-based, science-backed, and deeply personal.”
— Steven Larsen, Founder
Built from a loss that didn't have to happen.
Steven Larsen has spent more than three decades developing and operating senior living communities across the Midwest. In November 2025, he lost his brother and former business partner to Alzheimer’s. Rather than accept that outcome as inevitable, he channeled the loss into action: researching alternatives, partnering with Apollo Health, and building the Michigan Cognitive Recovery Center inside Lakeshore Woods.
“My brother couldn’t afford this care, but I would have made sure he could. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to for every resident who walks through our doors.”
— Steven Larsen, Founder, Goforth Group LLC
Three things you'll notice on a tour.
More staff per resident.
Higher staffing density than a typical nursing facility. Fewer residents per caregiver means real relationships, real attention, real care. Our staff stay for decades.
Pay only for the care you use.
Six clear Care Levels in Aspen and Cedar — from $1,100 to $2,600 per month based on actual hands-on support. All-inclusive tiered pricing in Memory Care. No surprises.
Functional medicine, lived daily.
Through MCRC, Lakeshore Woods is the only senior community in Michigan where families can find Apollo Health's functional-medicine cognitive program as a residential option.
Stories from Lakeshore Woods.
“When my father moved into Aspen, we worried he’d lose his independence. Six months in, he’s engaged, he’s eating well, and the staff know him by name. We finally exhale at night.”
— Family of Aspen Resident · Port Huron, MI
“The Care Levels system was the moment I knew this was different. We pay for what mom actually needs — not a flat fee that punishes families when needs change.”
— Daughter of Cedar Resident · Macomb County, MI
“We drove from Ohio for MCRC. There was no other residential ReCODE program within reach. The team has been honest about what’s possible — and given us a plan, not just a diagnosis.”
— Spouse of MCRC Resident · Cincinnati, OH
What you're probably wondering.
Lakeshore Woods is a premium senior community, not a clinical facility. Residents come here to live, engage, and where possible recover — supported by higher staffing density than a typical nursing facility, chef-prepared meals from a made-from-scratch kitchen, and an environment designed for daily life rather than custodial care. Yes, we have an on-staff Registered Nurse and 24/7 support. No, we don’t operate like a nursing home in tone, design, or programming.
Base rent starts at $4,870/month (Studio in Aspen) or $5,470/month (1-Bedroom in Cedar), plus a monthly Care Level fee from $1,100 to $2,600 based on the actual support a resident uses. Memory Care in Birch is all-inclusive at $6,850–$7,750/month across three tiers. See full pricing →
Almost never to a different community. Aspen, Birch, and Cedar are all on the same 7-acre campus, so residents can move across our continuum — Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care — as their needs evolve. They don’t have to leave the community, the staff, or the routines that have become familiar.
Individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) through early-stage dementia. MCRC is a precision-medicine, residential implementation of Apollo Health’s ReCODE+ For Facilities Program — one of two such centers in the United States. Eligibility is determined through a clinical screening. Learn more about MCRC →
